RACISM is alive in 2023 Viceroy Restaurant Afro Caribbean family: 2 Adults 1 child we had a 19:30 reservation arrived a few minutes early. As soon as we got to the door we were told You don't have a reservation and the African restaurant is next door all without checking any information. I said we do have a reservation gave my name spelt my surname twice while searching thru my phone to find the text confirmation. AGAIN we were told there is an African restaurant next door. I told them that is a Racist statement l no longer want to eat at their establishment as we turned around another member of staff said our Surname and confirmed we DID in fact have a reservation. There were lots of empty tables available. At this point we walked away. I WILL NOT give my hard earned money to a place where l am NOT welcome. Our evening was over. Having to explain blatant racism to my child who looked at me in shock that they refused to let us enter their restaurant hurt my heart. The whole conversation took place in the doorway of the restaurant as the member of staff was blocking the door. Whilst driving home we received a call from the Viceroy asking us to come back they had found the reservation. I said you found it while we were standing on the pavement. We asked the question if we were a Caucasian family would you have told them there is an African Restaurant next door? NO they wouldn't. They kept blaming it on the booking system pleaded for us to return. I advised I will NEVER spend my money with a Racist business.The Manager told me he has brown skin he can't be racist!! I advised not once have you apologised for treating us this way. The night was ruined Yes my feelings are hurt that this happened in front of my Son.

I have been a regular customer here for some years but it seems loyalty means nothing. Booked a table yet on arrival owners said we don’t except walk-ins anymore. I said we have booked a table but they didn’t want to know. Transpires they had a private party on which was fine however when we showed them the booking confirmation, one of the owners sarcastically said are you sure you’re at the right place. It was clear he was making out that we were too thick to know where we had booked despite being regulars. Needless to say we assured them how bad it was to waste our time and instead of apologising for their mistake they were less than bothered despite being regulars and almost assisted us out the restaurant. Needless to say we won’t be going to a restaurant that turned out not to be what we thought it was as they were just plain rude!
