We have been visiting Thai restaurants for over 30 years so are always interested in sampling local Thai fare when visiting a new town.At Thai Puka we ordered several stock standard dishes from their menu. While the food was served promptly, cooked adequately and the meat was tender enough, every dish was lacking in depth of flavour in comparison to equivalent dishes we've had at most other Thai restaurants. Instead of having a rich and dynamic taste, the curries could best be described as fairly bland gravy, more like what one would expect to find in a cheap food court outlet.Staff were polite enough and several were on duty even though it was a quiet evening. Despite this, it was hard to get anyone's attention to place our order, request drinks etc as they all were constantly preoccupied with something on the screen at the till counter and not keeping an eye on the seated customers.For this price level, we expect better. Next time we are in Albury, we will visit the Thai restaurant a little further along Dean St instead.
We went to this restaurent on Wednesday evening 26 July 2017. We asked at our accommodation if we should book that indicated no. We went at 6.30 pm as we are from Canberra. We got a table. Drinks came fairly quickly, order our meal with a share entree for my husband and I. We ordered two mains and a thai fried rice with cashews.Entree took 25 minutes to come out but our mail meal took over an hour. We finally realised they were more concerned with the take away orders and not the guest in the restaurent. One couple near us waited over an hour and a half to be servered. Two couples near us left after entree due to the service. We enjoyed the food but the service was dreadful and no matter how good the food is the service should match the food. We left the restaurent at 8.25 pm.
Came here midweek and it was packed! The food was plentiful and fresh - something not seen with many thai restaurants. We were served quickly ( we were the first customers) however they were slammed at the counter and many people were going to buy their own alcohol as the service started to slow. The decor is very very VERY old school which adds to the charm of the place. Would highly recommend to try as it pops up on every restaurant list for the Albury area. Reasonably priced with huge meals - great to share!
We eat here regularly and the popularity of Thai Puka for dine-in and take-away says it all! The food is consistently tasty, fresh and well presented. Service is efficient and friendly and although that 6:00-7:30pm time slot does get busy, they always do their best to provide prompt service. Can't go wrong here for value for money and a yummy meal.
