Service friendly and restaurant cozy. They serve the best bread. I had some tasty meatballs that were on special. It paired well with the beer I chose. Not a fan of the cucumber salad. I miss the mixed salad tossed in the house made dressing (one of the best side salads I've had). Also did not care for the over serving of a creamy tasteless pasta or potato dish. It was not a compliment to the meatballs or grilled veggies.
The Restaurant is so gorgeous on the inside. It has an antique feeling, and the food is fresh, traditional, and delicious. Could not ask for better wait service. Reservations are optional. We got good seats just walking on a Friday night, so stop by! Vegetarian options: Spaetzle, of two different kinds are available. Cucumber salad is DELECTABLE. The Desserts are wonderous.
My father was born in Budapest. Hungary and I grew up with the rich flavors of many old world dishes cooked by my grandfather, who became a chef at the Waldorf Astoria in New York after immigrating from Budapest. I love Novaks, because their recipes are authentic. It is still family owned and run, and they are about the friendliest eatery in Albany. I love Novak’s!
