The restaurant is very well located in the heart of the old town in Sancerre and, to all intents and purposes, looks like a convivial French bistrot. Ah! What a lovely looking spot I hear you say. I say, NOOOOOOOOOO! DO. NOT. ENTER ! We (as...part-time locals with a holiday home) have made that mistake once too often, optimistically hoping it was just a bad luck last time. Well it wasn't. The owner/chef is a slovenly, arrogant man who has his staff of two (one being his poor wife), running about like cut cats making excuses about the lack of food/drink/service while he takes an hour and a half to deliver raw steak hache and oven chips with no vegetable frills, not even ketchup, to four hungry children. Never mind the parents who had to deal with said hungry children under the blistering gaze of judgy French locals. The problem is, this odious establishment is always going to get unsuspecting tourist footfall because of its location. the patron knows this and so makes no effort to raise standards.

we went to lunch with friends at the esplanade yesterday noon, what a mistake! The waitress of a certain age as well as the bosses are unpleasant and unpleasant. It seems to be disturbed when you ask for more details on the dishes, a fulsome in a restaurant! As we had on the dishes, we had taken fried mussels - they had barely reached warm with a piece of bacon out of we know where; a hamburger - much too cooked and unskilled; the "paru head" - fade sauce and carrots not cooked enough; Andouillette - not cooked enough and with a sauce full of cumeaux. Finally, we ordered a plate of fries to complete one of the dishes: the plate was charged €4 for a small handful of fries. to crown everything, the toilets are dirty (and yet we were only at the 1st service). We preferred not to take dessert and shortened our lunch. If you visit the ancestor, pass your path! You'll find much better without a problem.

We had arrived by bicycle and lunch service had finished in most of the restaurants. We were glad to get something to eat and just wanted omelettes and a salad. 1 ham omelette and 1 crottin omelette was ordered along with a salad niçoise. A...nice salad arrived along with 1 mushroom omelette and 1 ham omelette. Not the best omelettes but OK for hungry travelers When we said we had the wrong order the owner shrugged his shoulders and walked off with a “take it or leave it” comment When the bill arrived we were charged for the dearer cheese omelette. I pointed out his mistake and his response was “You didn’t have to eat it” He is a caricature out of a Maupassant story. Greed and slovenliness are his greatest attributes. Unfortunately his restaurant is well placed to get passing trade so he has no need to make an effort. He and his overburdened wife are well past time for retirement.

I was having a joy to come back 30 years after the place where I spent many afternoons and evenings being a teenager ... the ice creams are always as good, but the welcome is really cool, at the limit of the inconvenience that makes you want to leave the place! and number of details help to blacken the table: two ice creams served with a towel, the other two without (although a claim, I always wait for the towels). a glass of water overturned by the waitress, but not replaced and cherry on the cake: the change made on 26€50 for a ticket to 26€. the waitress, in addition to being in a bad mood and the limit of the incorrection, is therefore attribute herself her tip.I came, I saw, but not defeated, and I will not return to it again. For info, even felt of my daughter the day before. The bad mood of the waitress is therefore unfortunately a constant. It's too bad.
