Ahhhhh French cuisine!! The home of culinary delights! Especially the seafood on the south coast. Oysters that fall from their shell, grilled prawns dripping in garlic bitter, sublime steaks that fall apart at the merest prompting of your knife. And then there is this place.........Our suspicions were first aroused when the live music turned up, sang one song, then stopped. I suppose you need to know when you are fighting a losing battle. Let’s begin with the staff. They do not care that you are a paying guest. They are well aware that the footfall in the restaurant is going to be a one off. And as such there is really no need to make any effort at all. We managed to attract the attention of an incredibly bored looking man and asked him for some mayonnaise to add some flavour to our sons bowl of frites. The mans eyes sparkled with indignation, he took a deep breath and said “no”. We’re not really used to being told no in response to basic requests for condiments so we took out lives in our hands and probed as to whether there was any flexibility in his answer. This seemed to trouble him, had he not been clear enough to us? Eventually he shrugged his shoulders and said that we could have aioli, although his demeanour did suggest that we were going to have to clutch the aioli from his lifeless hand. We declined as our son doesn’t like aioli. What a mistake that was! The mains arrived. Although there was nothing that aioli could do to rescue the Thai green boil in a bag prawn curry that my wife had, which seared the roof of her mouth and failed to make any other lasting impression, there was no doubt that significant dollops of aioli would bed necessary if any of the fish burger were going to be capable of being eaten. Taking our lives back in our hands we gestured to the waiting staff. The young man had clearly had to go outside for a sit down so we were faced with a young lady for whom smiling was an option rarely offered. In the meekest of voices we asked if it would be possible to have some aioli. She had clearly been warned about these over demanding British guests and bristled as she declared “no” before scurrying away to avoid any further confrontation. The British empire was not built by people who take “no” for an answer and when she ventured near enough to our table again we repeated our request for aioli. By this time, the already inedible fish burgers were becoming stone cold but because we were paying for this food, and call us traditionalists if you will, we were determined to have at least one mouthful. The waitress could see our resolve and nodded that she would fetch some aioli. Any sense of achievement that we felt died faster than our appetites when she simply never returned to our table and was never to be seen again. So that was it, a completely disgusting Thai prawn green curry and two disgusting inedible fish burgers. If you ever go to this restaurant then you will leave asking yourself why. As I went to pay, the man behind the bar asked me if everything had been ok? I began to describe our eating experience, well he had asked, but he interrupted me, handed me back my card and shrugged

A friend and I had a delicious lunch here on July one of those long, joyful lunches when everything is perfect. The sun, the sky, the sea, the company, the food ... ah, the food ... and the wine! The service was so...friendly and helpful, and the owner explained that nearly everything was local and freshly made. We had beef tartare and tuna tartare to start, followed by fresh sardines and daurade with wonderful vegetables and salads. There was a little pre-starter of chilled beetroot purée and saffron foam (yummy). We had a lovely bottle of local organic rose, which complemented the food perfectly. It was the sort of lunch you spend two and a half hours over, enjoying the wonderful food and wine, watching the beautiful view, and seeing people passing by. Le Franqui is a great French resort of the traditional type great beach and sea, some lovely cafes, and lots of happy families enjoying a seaside holiday. We couldn't manage puddings, alas, but a magnificent two course meal with wine and coffee came to Euros each. A bargain! I would come here again in a heartbeat

We have eaten here times (twice in always excellent ! We came for lunch, with friends who used to run a hospitality business and enjoy good food. We all chose 'Entre Plat' the food was delicious, well presented, very fresh and...the service very good. The view out to sea also 'sets the scene' !.A super experience. Will be back soon hopefully !
