Situated in Norwood Place, just out the front of Foodland, Jack’s has been a long-standing coffee place that serves lunch and the casual coffee and cake customer. It’s convenience to the shopping complex is really its main advantage. A reasonably mid-week busy period during, I found my self-shopping at Foodland and fancied a coffee and cake. Jack’s right on hand. So wandered over looked at the cake display which is varied and made my choice – Orange and almond cake. Went over to the servery to order my normal flat white coffee, made my choice of table number and ordered the cake which was served immediately. It took about another 15 minutes before the coffee arrived. I got from the staff on duty the feeling that they did not really want to be there and were going through the motions of very basic customer service – not a smile anywhere or any interaction with me as a customer. As my table was close by to the ordering point, I noted this seemed to be the modus operandi. Eve when my flat white was brought to my table the interaction was very brief – “Flat white Sir?” “Yes” I answered end of interaction.The coffee was hot, weak and bland. The cake was moist and the flavour of the orange glaze was sharp and mixed well with the almond based cake.The café is in a busy mall and is not the most desirable for a quiet relaxing moment. There were a couple of groups there at the same time. I am not sure how they managed to enjoy each other’s conversation without yelling.Return? Only as last resort as there are many other far better coffee and cake places on Norwood Parade.
Jacks is a very popular coffee and snack spot in the large shopping area at Foodland, Norwood, it is common for locals to go there for coffee each time they go shopping. Service is quick, the staff are friendly and helpful, there are newspapers to read while you wait for coffee, and a large range of snacks, sweet things, cakes, breakfast and lunch meals. It is light and bright, lots going in the shopping centre around, and an ideal place to meet for a coffee.
We visit Norwood often and we find Jack's a great place to have a quick bite and an excellent coffee. Last Friday I had the best fish and chips for a long, long time- at a fraction of the price that you would pay at 'up market' eateries. So don't be snobby,eat at Jack's and pocket the cash!
In the heart of the Foodlands Arcade Jacks has its little diner and alfresco area. Good coffee and service. Its nice to sip away and watch the busy passing foot traffic. It can get loud and pretty hectic. Parking underneath or next door carpark.
