We love Susis. From her beaming welcoming smile to the banter we have with her. The setting is very traditional Spanish somewhat isolated up the Bernia road from Jalon about 7 kilometres up a narrow winding road. The outside terrace overlooks vines and in the distance the magnificence of the Bernia Range. Indoors you have a typical Spanish house with various local and Moroccan crafts for sale on display. The meal is an all in price of either 22 or 25 euros dependent on the main course. As much local wine as you can manage. Drivers have to observe the Spanish drink driving laws. Specialities of the house are slow roasted lamb or chicken cooked in cider or with a mushroom sauce. A fish course is always an option. Alternatively you can pre order a Moroccan Tajine cooked and served in the traditional Moroccan way. We usually opt for ice cream for desert including a great turon ice cream but you can also get fruit of the season, almond cake or an egg custard.

When lockdown kicked in in Valencia in 2020 we were due to eat at Casa Susi but then the government said all restaurants had to close so we missed out. When we eventually made it back to Jalon 18 months later we opted to renew our acquaintance with Susi and her restaurant. We were greeted by her big smile and brilliant sense of humour. Our friends are not keen on the pinchos tapas so we were given a cheese and courgette tapa which was very nice. For the starter we had pate and lasagne. For main I opted for the lamb which was as usual tender, tastyand falling off the bone my wife had something with a similar description at a “ gastro pub” in the uk where the chef needed to learn a lesson hers was dry, overcooked and a lot more expensive. Deserts we chose the ice cream. Although I can recommend the almond tart from previous visits. The wine is very drinkable and keeps flowing luckily I wasn’t driving.

Another excellent meal at Casa Susi. The oven roasted lamb was delicious. We are never disappointed with the meal here and the owner is always smiling and has a great sense of humour. Lots of wine included in the meal and a great almond tart dessert. Great value for money. Looking forward to our next visit.
