Chez Marie - Reservar uma mesa

It took us some time to discover Chez Marie in Grand Varbre, thanks to the recommendation of a friend. You might easily pass it by, but this would be a mistake. .We rent a holiday house about 15 minutes drive away or we can walk there over the hills. They are friendly and welcoming and efficient and the food is very much of the region, completely unpretentious but accurately made and very reasonably priced. We specially like Tuesdays, which is couscous night; you'd better have spent the day ploughing beforehand to finish the piles of meat provided. There's a large dining room and a fairly big terrace outside; on one occasion, we were seated outside when a tremendous storm blew up out of nowhere and we were re seated snugly inside within seconds as the rain began to lash down. This probably happens several times a year, as does the regular extinction of the lights (they quickly come back on, usually). We have been quite large parties there, and the excellent and energetic waitresses do not bat an eyelid. Strongly recommended.

Looking for lunch one day we spotted Chez Marie as we were driving through the village and stopped there. The restaurant was pretty full, which was a good sign. Service was extremely slow, however, although we could not blame the waitress, who was cheerful and helpful but completely overworked since she was the only one on duty. Our lunch was mixed. I had some sort of cheap steak which was tough as a boot. On the other hand my wife had a mushroom omelette which was delicious. Restaurants in the area are not plentiful, so we returned a few days later for dinner. This time I had the omelette, which was again delicious, and everyone else in our group of four were very happy with their food. The wine too was excellent. Prices were reasonable, the atmosphere was cheerful, and we all enjoyed the evening. So although our first experience was a bit negative we ended up by liking this place and would come again for dinner in the evening.

A real nice place in Grand Vabre simple but excellent food, at very reasonnable price. What I especially enjoyed was the way I have been welcomed I was on a one day hiking trip, looked quite dirty when I arrived there around 1pm, with my back pack, and still, I was welcomed with a great, truely genuine smile ! I really love people who love their job and can communicate such great and true feelings upon arriving at their place ! Besides, the place is very simply set up, but it's nice, with great food.

Very friendly atmosphere and a beautiful location, walking distance from historic Conques. Fresh ingredients and good traditional cooking.
