If you eat there, you'll go back to the early 1900. Eating like at grandma's kitchen. The maidservant will bring youthe food, the farmhand will show you the whole place. The roof room Schloof you find beds beside the table and underwear hanging on the line. First floor you find the living room and in the back room you see behind a window the mother pig with the young ones. Also the Tintelompe a old school room and a shop. In the cellar the wine room, the bakery and the toilets (like in the old days, no, it only looks like. And the food in this restaurant is absolut Appenzell style! For the kids many animals around the house and a big playground. You will never forget this place! By car is it not far from St. Gallen. If you come by train tell them, theypick you up at the railway station in Teufen or Spycher and bring you back.
Somebody put a lot of thought an effort into creating a mountain dining environment that captures the views of the Säntis and other peaks, as well as walking paths, horses and other farm animals for everyone to enjoy. Their food specialties include grilled veal and veal in a cream sauce. They also serve specialty sausages and dried meats from the region. We were a large group and each ordered something different and everyone was quite happy with the meal and the attentive service.
I have visited the Waldegg several times now, essentially because I can't keep away! The summer terrace encompasses a view across the Alps and the food is tasty and reasonably priced for Switzerland! I love walking from Teufen to Spechier and stopping here along the way. One of my favourite places in the world. It is also set up for families with a great playground and animal farm.
This is a very nice location for a day off with kids! You can either go by car directly to the place (15min from St Gallen) or go by train and do an easy hike around.The place has a playground for kids and farm animals for kids to interact (goat, sheep, horse, cow, rabbits, chicken.) View is really nice to the mountains!And the food is great, including very nice ice creams!
