We have been to Vora Estany about ten times over the last five years and every time the food has been good to excellent, except for the last time we went with friends. On that occasion it was so bad that we had to apologise to our guests. But, all of that was behind us. The confinement had resulted in many restaurants closing and others taking the opportunity to revamp their service. Certainly the menu had been changed and it looked good. So, against my wife's preference, we went there on Tuesday 26 Avril 2022. The starters were good, the desserts were good, the wine was good and not too expensive and my main course was excellent in taste, presentation and quantity. Sadly my wife's main dish was little short of appalling. It was difficult to imagine what made the waitress describe the bland plate of boiled vegetables accompanied by a shapeless dollop of lentilly mush as muy buena. Horrible would have been a much more appropriate adjective. And worse still, we did not complain. My wife pushed the offensive offering around the plate and then satisfied herself with dry bread. She handed an almost completely untouched meal back to the waitress who seemed totally unconcerned. All of the positives today did not offset the negative effects of that meal. They also did not compensate for the poor meal with friendly welcoming service. Some staff members were pleasant enough, but on the whole they were rather brusque. We left having not complained but determined to not devote any more of our valuable time to dining in that particular establishment .
My selection was actually great and would reserve, but other colleagues were not that enthusiastic, so 4 star is a good balanced score. Still, considering this is a 16€ menu which includes entree, main course, dessert, water and coffee, plus the quality of most of the dishes, the nice modern deco, the friendly service and the nice views...then it is hard not to set a 5 star. A lovely place to sit and have a beer on the way to the coast from Besalu. Good to see where Sir Steven Redgrave won the first of his gold medal, and a pretty spot.
