After a recently disappointing meal at another Italian Restaurant a few weeks prior, I was all set for a less than enjoyable evening. And while we clearly arrived during change over on tables as the staff were running around like crazy and seemed overwhelmed to be honest, they were if not 100% attentive to our needs early in the evening, they were professional and friendly. Things eventually calmed down somewhat, and our meals started coming.Strangely I order another steak dish (after a recently disappointing steak at another Italian restaurant), but was I in for a surprise. I ordered the TAGLIATA DI MANZO which is a grass fed beef scotch fillet with charred onion, mushrooms and a mustard jus. In a word, divine! Absolutely superb dish, incredible flavour, and thoroughly enjoyable.From entree's to mains and through to desert, we all had a great night of excellent food. The staff by the end of the night, after it had calmed down were very friendly and keen to please, and provided us all with a free after dinner drink to end the meal. As a result of our very enjoyable evening, I can thoroughly recommend Via Alta, you will not be disappointed!
We generally avoid restaurants that have 2 sittings. Via Alta is a popular spot with locals but not a restaurant where you want to spend a whole night. We like to go there for a pleasant lunch or dinner but have REALLY come to hate the way they almost throw the 3 courses at you one course straight after the next course, if you have an early booking. It has become a real bugbear with us. The service is perfunctory and they do not allow any time at all between courses. It just feels like 'hurry up and eat and get out'. The place seriously lacks charm and being locals, we have dined here quite a number of times as we like to support local businesses. The food is quite good. The bread is disappointing.
We had lunch here today. The restaurant was completely full. The wait-staff were excellent. They were on the ball at all times and didn't miss a beat. The food was excellent. Beautifully presented and very tasty. Left completely satisfied.
Friendly service. Excellent fresh ingredients and great bread. Lightly battered calamari with wasabi mayonaise a good start. A big piece of well cooked pork belly and appealing beetroot risotto with goats cheese. Good BYO option
