We don't talk about Gino, no, no, no! Once, but these days have passed. With the Chicagoland filled with Lou’s and Gio’s, Gino’s East has taken a back seat in the battle for the best thick crust deep dish/filled crust pizza. Apart from the 2 Chicago locations, you would be hard pressed to find a location nearby. Lucky for me, the Wheaton site was within 15 minutes of my house, so I decided to give him a shot. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't exactly the same taste I remembered from Ginos East 10-15 years ago. The crust was dry and little taste you would find in a Malnati deep dish. And the sauce was not as sturdy nor the cheese as dense or stretchable as Giordano’s, but it was by no means bad. But then again it was never as good as the other two, but at least it held its own with its pronounced corneal crust. Now it is only dry and it lacks taste. Next time I will try to meet one of the Chicago locations and eat in the restaurant instead of performing. Oh, and hopefully I will remember just staying at the base cheese instead of the OMG w/basil, because it became something of a distraction as my main focus was to satisfy my ravenous appetite with tons of gooey melted cheese.
