Prepare yourselves, readers I 'm about to wax lyrical. Over the years I have often passed by The March Hare and thought 'That looks like a lovely pub must visit some day ' so we decided to try it for our special Christmas Eve supper. We booked in for an odd sort of late lunch early supper on Christmas Eve, which suited us due to other commitments, but it was partly because lunch and supper slots were already heavily booked. The place was heaving when we arrived and we were a little concerned for the level of service we 'd experience. We needn 't have worried it was fantastic throughout. Every staff member we encountered was pleasant, attentive and knew their stuff, despite the fast paced pressure they were facing. Now to the food. The main reason I ended up booking The March Hare was because of the many and varied vegetarian and vegan options. We are pescetarians, but in fact we eat vegan at least 50 per cent of the time. The entire meal was perfect from start to finish. We had a small dish of olives to start the herby concoction served with these was really tasty. On to the starters I had the Baked Chestnut Mushrooms with cep cream (vegan), and my companion had the fish soup. Main course for me was the Harissa Baked Aubergine and for my companion the Herb Gnocchi, plus we had a side of the Charred Hispi Cabbage. Everything in these dishes was done to perfection and the portion sizes were just right. Finally, dessert. We play something called 'pub pudding bingo ' where one of us guesses how many of the bog standard dishes that you find at every single pub across the country will appear on that venue 's menu. It is unrelentingly tedious to have the same things offered up at every pub (eg sticky toffee pudding, some form of crumble, Eton mess, brownie, either a creme brulée or a pannacotta, ice cream, cheese plate). I am happy to confirm that only a couple of those appeared on The March Hare menu. Instead we were offered interesting options such as the Pistachio Soufflé and Chocolate Orange Delice. These two desserts were exceptional the soufflé was perhaps the best I 've ever eaten, with the flavour of pistachio really coming through, and the delice was rich and luxurious. We ordered double espressos to finish, fully expecting that this would be the one disappointing element of an otherwise flawless meal. Thankfully, they were superb clearly the machine is maintained, good quality beans are used and the staff are properly trained. Perhaps The March Hare pulled out all the stops for Christmas Eve, and had their best staff working. Possibly the next time we go it won 't be 100 per cent perfect. But we 're more than happy to take a chance. This was one of our best meals in years.

Very disabled unfriendly place. Came here on a Saturday with wheelchair partner. Lots of empty tables so tried to sit at one but wheelchair wouldn't fit managed to ask a passing waiter if they have a better table only then was asked did we book. Said No. He then told us all those many empty tables are booked! Then just left us standing. Didn't offer any assistance/advice. We struggled to get out as the personnel couldnt be bothered to move. So if you are disabled avoid this place.
