The Holmfield Eating Inn

I’m afraid our Sunday lunch 10th December) with the family was something of a let down. I normally visit The Holmfield with just my husband when we visit our daughter who lives locally) and have had many lovely meals here in the past and only one previous negative experience. On this occasion we had travelled down from the North East with my sister to visit my daughter, her partner and my grandson so decided to treat everyone to what I hoped would be a lovely meal. We were greeted , seated and shown our table in pleasant surroundings where we were served by Poppy and Alfred they didn’t introduce themselves but they have served us in the past). There were only a few other diners in the restaurant but service did seem rather slow. Our drinks order took a long time to arrive and then we waited for an even longer time for our food. We asked for a few condiments which then took so long to arrive that we had almost finished our already Luke warm food when they did! Disappointingly the turkey which 4 of us had ordered was not ‘real’ meat merely processed ‘plasticky tasting’ slices. My daughters partner said his mac and cheese was nice and the pork was okay although there was no crackling. The vegetables tasted ‘soggy’ and not fresh as we had expected. This was a rare special family get together for us so I did not want to sour the day by complaining at the time but I have just received an e Mail asking to review our experience so have done so.

Brought food out 15mins after we ordered it for 8 people including salmon and a burger which means they cook food off and hot hold it. I asked for the balsamic salad but they brought out the honey mustard salad so i sent it back, chicken skewers were cold to which I sent it back and they still charged me saying i sent it back 10mins after it had been at my table but there were not alot of staff free so should I take it to the kitchen myself? No one said sorry and when I contested the bill a male member came over and said that no one said sorry because I was getting angry, also he said that everything I was saying is wrong and as he walked away he told me to F% off then he stood at the end of the bar and as I walked out he said very loudly have a great day mate! With a smile on his face. Now these places like this only source of income is customer service and have him speak to me like that in front of my family with 2 children under the age of 8 is extremely unacceptable I understand working around this time of year in this industry is difficult as I am a chef myself but if you cant handle it get an easier job like cleaning pigs. However he will probably get away with it as the manager didn 't come over or anything, but going forward we will never come here again and I will go out of my way to let people know how awful we were treated and how he spoke to me!!!

Nice atmosphere, food was stunning, friendly staff reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend! A special thanks to Brittany Jade for their excellent service.

Just had birthday meal and my food was gorgeous, server Ryan so polite and overall excellent experience .
