We used to love it here... The service was really bad, it was a catalogue of mini disasters, from starters being served at totally different times, the wrong wine being served (although it did work to outer favour and this mistake was dealt with beautifully) wrong drinks came, luke warm main courses... As it was a very special occasion I didn't make a fuss at the time but I did write to them afterwards and they dealt with it perfectly, apologised, refunded the service charge and offered drinks the next time. So, on the night, awful but the aftercare was great. Would we go back again? It's too expensive for what you get, so no, not until I read more positive reviews. It used to be worth the money but since Fullers took over the waiting staff simply aren't trained very well, it's purely down to the management not the waiting staff who were all pleasant people. We did come for drinks a few weeks before but left after one drink, a lengthy wait, staff huddled together moaning loudly about the place and the music was awful and loud. Fullers have screwed up this once lovely both hole.
We went on Saturday for dinner with my in laws. The duck I ordered was very dry and was really hard to chew and my mother in law had an upset stomach from rare kidney with goat. However wine and desert were very good and delicious. The overall pub experience is great with amazing views and atmosphere. We have been before with my husband on Friday and Thursday nights when we had drinks and burgers for dinner, but not in the restaurant. I would not recommend the restaurant as it is overpriced for what it is compared to other places on London but the pub is great with good wine and beer selection.
A friend recommended 'The Gun ' to us, so I made a reservation for Sunday roast the food was delicious, the staff very friendly and swift, the view (it 's opposite the O2) splendid. I had the roast rump of Cumbrian beef with duck fat roast potatoes, a true delight. I 'm definitely looking forward to the next time at this pub.
Lord Nelson lived nearby and was a patron.Now the patrons are a mix,pleasant enough,good food with a Yorkshire pudding the size of a small hat.Nice atmosphere,attentive staff,coffee on the river.
