"Really super restaurant for casual family dining. We ate in this restaurant most evenings. Good choice maybe not so many dishes with chips. But the children thought that was great. Adult Pizzas might be worth adding? But i can not fault the quality of...the food served or the service provided by the staff."

The Basement was the newest addition to the Tschuggen Grand Hotel. To be precise, it replaced the former traditional Bundnerstube restaurant. I’ve stayed at Tschuggen three times and the latest visit was in December 2017 over the Christmas holiday. Bundnerstube was safe for the hotel,...but The Basement was a risky maneuver bringing in a hip, casual restaurant serving some American inspired fare. It definitely livened up the place, because when I dined at the former Bundnerstube in previous years I thought I could snooze anytime. Yes, it was pretty boring. I gave it five raving stars because Tschuggen did a fine job with the renovation, I loved how hip and modern The Basement was AND they kept the old bowling alley. Amazing. The service was fantastic, especially our waiter. He was on top of his game, never missing a beat. He was friendly, humorous and attentive. When I dined in Switzerland, I don’t really get being asked if I’m lactose intolerant. It was definitely the first time I’ve heard it and that came from my waiter. I didn’t tell I was but he figured it out. He was sensitive to my dietary restrictions and for that, I am wholly grateful. I’m a huge fan of open kitchen and The Basement surely outfitted that in this renovated space. Our dishes were churned out quickly, never having to wait too long. I had the very best crispy chicken burger in my entire life, and I’m not even exaggerating. It was so delicious I still dream of it to this very day...two months later. Not to mention, I also had the best shaken salad in a jar. The waiter prepared it by our table, shaking it like he was making a fine martini instead of a salad. It was so fresh and you could definitely taste it throughout each bite. I could go seconds, you know? The atmosphere here was lively, plenty of patrons dining after a hard day of skiing. As always, the bowling alley was a huge hit. If I ever come back to Tschuggen, you know where my first stop would be The Basement. That’s right.

Nice and easy place I enjoy fine dining very much and try to seek out hidden gems. However I have never had to pay 12 francs for bread in my life. The first basket is given on arrival while most of us eat while sipping...our Apero drink then of course you need a little more for your salad. Then you get the bill and see you have been charged. I never confronted the waiter as that is not my style. But it has been bugging me since. Of course we will not return....just the principle There is even a price on the menu.

disappointment for such a high-end hotel. Kellner was rude and inattentive all was a joke to him and took us to serve forever. Eating was very average quality and unbelievable about price we both had the burger and we were both...until the night (the burger was quite rare that they should have asked us our preference, and was the only common food we ate this day, so we assume it must have been the meat). Food quality and service definitely does not meet expectations and price points!

As soon as you pass the Ostentatious Hotel reception and entrance it is up to the basement for the best burgers in Arosa. I had the Chilli Burger in a Black Bun! (no cheese) Honestly, I won't be happy about Burger, but these burgers are like no other. Great service and casual atmosphere. The bowling alley is definitely an unexpected addition!
