I had not visited prior to this trip. When making the online booking, I did not realise that the terrace wasn’t attached to the building, making it extremely cold and windy. I would not recommend sitting here, unless it is the summer, the heat lamps provide minimal heat. Luckily, they were able to give us an alternative table indoors, but we were limited on time due to the table being needed for another booking. This was not the fault of the six bells, but are error during booking, I feel the website should give more guidance as to what the terraced area is and inform families that it is cold during winter, one of our party members was in his 80s, so it was certainly too cold for us. Putting this aside, our order was taken promptly, and food arrived speedily. The staff were extremely tentative, polite and pleasant. Nothing was too much trouble. My mum is allergic to poultry and usually selects lamb or pork, neither were available on the menu so she opted for beef. Perhaps the menu could have provided slightly more range. Having a small menu, however, meant that the food arrived promptly and was cooked to perfection. I ordered the beef cheek which simply fell apart when cutting, this could not have been cooked any better, and was probably the best beef I have eaten to date, I could’ve eaten this dish again and again and again and again. To start I had the squid, which again was excellent, two others had the soup of the day, which was delicious. The portion sizes were perfect, not too little, and not too much, a free course meal could have been easily finished without feeling too full. Due to the table turnaround time we were unable to order dessert, again, I must specify this was not the fault of the six bells. When the bill was bought over to us, a selection of home-made fudge and truffles were also bought over, as an apology for not being able to order dessert. This was unexpected, but a very pleasant addition which finished off the meal perfectly. I will certainly visit again, and recommend the six bells for anyone, wanting an enjoyable three course meal. We ate early in the evening on a Saturday, which I think was a good decision, as whilst we were leaving, the main pub and bar area has started to get slightly louder, to be expected on a Saturday night.
