"Excellent service and good food. Breakfast cakes are a little garlicky for my taste, but the food is delicious and cheap. Good coffee too. But I especially like the atmosphere and the service (and the small triangle puzzles on each table)."

I would have read the reviews before I first came here because I looked at her handwritten menu, I had no idea what was good. I ordered the Cheapskate meal #2, not because it was “Kap” but it was the only thing in the menu, the coffee, pancakes and eggs (Salty Sweet combination). I'm sure the other food is good, but in the morning I usually have a little sweet and salty. First impressions: So I came here 11 to brunch with my old high school friends. The place (like the reviews below) is quite small, but wonderfully there was a table open to us. There are also outdoor seats for a good sunny day. It reminded me of an old diner, and there are some humorous characters and sayings from the 70s and 80s to read the wall. Food: Coffee: Taste like a generic mix. Add some dice sugar and creamer and it was good. Not great, not bad. Stirred egg bacon: Something I could have done myself! Pancake: Big ol’ pancakes I wolfed. I'm tired. However, this review must be taken with a salt grain, as I did not order its “speciality” elements, as suggested by the following reviewers. Next time, I will order something more specific than bacon, eggs and pancakes. Can’t expect much from a “Cheapskate Menu” tho, but still thought it was overpriced $8.00

next street cafés nostalgic let-the-little-things-slide art mentality, seemingly borrowed cutlery, and floor-to-rafted family mementos is effused by simple things that we all finally take for granted name: over medium-sized eggs that are not over and with, S**t on a shingle that will be so much better no verbal ornaments required. Pizza-Full – adj: a reflexive condition of eating “only one more” repeatedly due to a conviction that it is too good waste. yes. it is overcrowded, the place is cramped, that always wait long to wash, and they will find very likely to share one table with two or more other people. So what? the atmosphere seems to be tailor-made to make a facet so good by what is cooked at home meals surrounded by people who shared a common goal to be fed by people who wanted nothing else than to feed them. some can remember a time when their dishes consisted of hand-me-downs, garage sale conquests and orphaned goodwill dinnerware. if the quality of their smokers and instant quaker hafermuse had to compensate for mismatched shells and saucers. Although I do not miss these days (very much) my memory seems a bit more sweet that I wanted to see from the same exact plates I sworn I never wanted.

in any case a place they can easily fall in after they roll out of the bed and only need a little breakfast or lunch. Don't have to dress, just show up! I think it's family owned by the pictures on the wall. the service is great! it has a steady flow of customers, so they know that it must be good. the price is not bad either. they can either sit on the way (they look is newport blvd and only random people either ride or go from anywhere and anywhere, that is costa mesa for them or inside. could be a little small for some people, eclectic style, not matching chairs, looks like oma escap, but it works.

side street caffe is a tiny place, with limited seat. but eating is worth waiting. I moved from Texas a few years ago and can honestly say I had forgotten how much I loved Texas food until I went to street. the best dishes are Tex-Mex, like huevos rancheros. however, they have healthier options for the calorie conscious (although few.) I can not expect to go back and eat at lunchtime. my only negatiw is the waiter who looks a little confused who the table has in such a small place. Hopefully they expand to some more tables.
