We found ourselves just before noon overlooking the sea at the Ile Tudy, thanks to a recommendation from the manager of the place where we were staying near Quimper. The view of the bay was spectacular. A man approached with his fishing gear and we asked if there was somewhere to eat. "Just along there" he said, waving towards the point. We rounded it and thought he had been leading us on, since we found nothing but more views of land and sea. They were again stunning, this time of the estuary and of Loctudy and its harbour on the opposite bank. Further on we were pleased to find the Place de la Cale, with four eating places, which we examined closely. Le Malamok at the Hotel Modern looked the most traditional and the most interesting. Our welcome there proved to be bright and friendly, the menus good, the prices reasonable, the scents from the kitchen intriguing. We ordered one menu of the day - moules mariniere - and one assiette de fruits de mer. Both were just superb, their ingredients fresh from the sea, and their presentation simple but thoroughly inviting. The staff were smiling, helpful and attentive throughout. We felt that we had a highly satisfying, very French meal that was not too costly and really good value because of its freshness. We shall definitely aim to go again and will always remain grateful to the staff at our Holiday Property Bond location of Le Manoir du Hilguy for pointing us in exactly the right direction for the start of our excellent holiday. But finding such a good restaurant was itself just a matter of luck!!
