Having eaten at Redmond's once in the past, I booked my partner into Carden Park and Redmond's for a surprise one night stay to celebrate a birthday. Redmond's is said to be a classy, AA rosette restaurant, but what we discovered was an extremely pricey, comically poor experience: It took around 15 minutes for someone to take our food order and no one came to ask for drink orders. We ordered a starter of bread and houmous, with butternut ravioli and steak for mains. The bread and houmous took around 40 minutes to come, and was literally some thick slices from a bloomer, with no butter, just a thimble full of houmous barely enough for one person. We flagged a waiter down and asked for some more, but later did notice other tables being brought butter, so we assume that was just forgotten about at the time. Mains were another 20 minutes or so. In the meantime, we'd heard complaints from every single table around us one about the slow service, one about a cold coffee, one about a starter being cold, one in which the server had totally forgotten someone's meal and simply brought them out a side of mashed potato, and another about their fillet of salmon being half ice cold and half hot. When it arrived, my meal consisted of 6 pieces of ravioli £15! with some brocolli and raisins, and my partner's steak £25! was overcooked. We would have complained at the time, but by this point we were hungry and didn't want to further ruin the evening by arguing with staff. In total, the 2 course meal took nearly two hours, cost around £60 which was not far off the price of the hotel itself and genuinely ruined what had been planned out as a big birthday surprise. I'd be more than happy for the manager to contact me and to talk this through, but in hindsight do wish I'd bitten the bullet and complained at the time, as I would appreciate a partial refund.
