Very nice Tafelspitz (even if I have had even more tender ones before), with pleasant, attentive service. We were a bit underwhelmed by their Kaiserschmarrn for desert which tasted like an ordinary sponge cake and was too cold for my taste. Overall a nice dinner but one big negative was the smoke on the terrace. Admittedly, this is allowed by Austrian regulations (in my view totally out of date considering current practice in most European countries) but there was a big group of people smoking cigars. This is not considerate of other guests, and the restaurant could consider limiting terrace smoking to lighter fare.

This is a unique dining experience, especially if you order Tafelspitz which is representative of the tasty, simple, customary dishes of this former imperial capital. This dish is served in several copper pots and features quality boiled beef as prepared classically. Prices are not cheap, but if you're looking for a unique Viennese old world dining experience, this is sure to please. If boiled beef is not to your liking you'll find other delightful selections. Try the veal medallions cooked with mushrooms - simply wonderful.

Went here as part of weekend trip to Vienna for my birthday and looking for somewhere to eat to celebrate. Left booking late and difficult to get in as so popular but worth the effort. Had the tafelspitz and really enjoyed it (other than the bone marrow!) - waiter very helpful in advising what to have and wine to accompany it.

If you want to taste the typical Viennese "Tafelspitz" which is boiled beef, soup, potatoes and spinach, then you should go in one of the many Plachuttas in town. It is delicious! A shame is that the atmosphere is not cozy and service quite bad.
