I found out about Pie Society from the headline "James Beard Award winning pastry chef closing popular Berkeley bakery "You don 't know what 's good until it 's gone T TI 'm wary of hyped up places because they sometimes turn out underwhelming, but Pie Society was totally worth the 2.5h wait and ~50 splurge. I arrived ~9:15am for their 10am opening. As a small business, they don 't have much staff so the line moved slowly and I walked out with my pies at ~11:45pm. I came prepared with a hat for sun protection and a book for the wait, but I chatted with people in line around me and discovered some awesome food places in the Bay Area (the community is great! It 's like our very own pie society).I got a slice of each to try everything and make my own mosiac frankenpie. I wish I hoarded more, but I wanted to be mindful of people in line behind me and the disaster of selling out when it 's your turn.Everything was delicious perfection. Passionfruit bayleaf meringue pie their signature OG. I fell madly in love with the layers... first the crack crust, then passionfruit curd, then a subtly floral bayleaf sweet cream, and finally expert toasted meringue in beautiful concentric circles. Apple rhubarb pie I was mildly disappointed since the menu had initially specified apple rhubarb cherry pie, but I guess they ran out of cherries. Nonetheless, the tart pie was a masterpiece, topped with a crunchy brown butter shortbread crumble. Tastes like spring in a pie.Bourbon chocolate nut pie oh this one was loaded. It 's an extremely advanced version of pecan pie, except with a boatload of pecans and walnuts, blended with bourbon, brown sugar, and honey, along with orange and chocolate for good measure. It takes a few bites to grown on you, but out of all the pies, this tasted the most unique and sophisticated.Key lime pie tangy, prominent lime flavors, with a garnish of citrus zest. The graham cracker crust is a classic pairing.Coconut cream pie very coconut y with coconut bavarios, coconut jam, creamy coconut filling, and toasted coconut flakes as the chef 's kiss. The description mentions that the crust has a touch of rum, but I didn 't notice it since it was predominantly cream. Oat cherry almond cookie Not surprisingly, just about everything is amazing. The cookie was exceptional; the almond bits had a nice dimension, and the tart cherries added a kick.Thank you, Pie Society, for your hard work and all the smiles and happiness you 've brought to the society. Looking forward to the pop ups!

I'm so glad I had the opportunity to try this shop before they close April 22. I pre-ordered online a few weeks to pick up on weekend. I believe they do offer walk in purchases if you are not able to pre-order. Also, even if you pre-order, you have to wait in the same line as walk in orders. Be prepared to wait a little. I ordered one chicken pot pie and Frankenpie (which offers a slice of every pie that is on their menu). Chicken pot pie: you have to bake it at home for about 40 minutes before serving, but it is totally worth it. The chicken was flavorful and crust was so flakey. So delicious. Frankenpie: this was so unique. I loved the Passionfruit Bay Leaf Meringue Pie (which is their most popular pie). I also enjoyed their Blushing Apple Streusel Pie and Key Lime Pie too. My least favorite was the Walnut Pecan Bourbon, but only because I am not a fan of walnuts or pecans to begin with. There's a small parking lot, but plenty of street parking near by too. Highly recommend if you can try this place before they close!

I finally had pie from here, right before they closed. Honestly, I didn 't get it? I have had better homemade pie from friends or chez moi. The prices were extraordinary, but the pies, service, and ambiance were not. It 's an industrial kitchen tucked away in a light industrial zone, and there are a few tables, surrounded by corrugated metal. They didn 't have slices for all of flavors, and I didn 't want to spend $20 on a tiny pie. They didn 't have coffee or beverages, and only disposable tableware, so it 's primarily a take-out place. It might have been an off day as it was the week after pie day. I would try them again, but not on my dime.

I got there before the place opened and stood in line for 45 minutes and wasn't even halfway there. I was trying to buy pies to bring to Easter breakfast at a friends house and was left empty-handed. I know they're closing but they should've made better provisions instead of making customers wait over an hour and a half to get pies.
