We have a fast internet search for a good Cuban sandwich in Sarasota and it came with this place. When we drove there, we were empty from the neighborhood and the place looked a little rough out of the outside, but I decided we had to try it out. I went first to get a quick look and it just felt like a good ol' local diving bar. I waved my family in (including my two children and the owner (J.R. seemed a little skeptical of me with my Detroit Tigers shirt sitting alone on a table of six! After all sat, JR came over a few jokes about how nice I was to let some strangers sit at my table! It was all in good fun! The waiting staff and the fellow customers made it comfortable to be there. Our waitress, Heidi from Toledo, was fantastic! She was personally and very accommodating for the needs of our children! The food was great and serving size was cheap! The Cubans, my wife and I were delicious. Our plates were empty (as noted by Heidi and our bells were full. I recommend this local institution and hope to return in the future! The Packinghouse is a great “old Florida” restaurant and music venue. It is the place where we are all welcome. We discovered it about twelve years ago. It is the kind of place where you can go on the date night, have a really great meal, a few beers, listen to some really great music and get the door for under $50 dollars. Your menu has a wide range of elements that I am sure to please any pallet. Besides, they have one of the best burgers if not the best on the sun bench.
Stopped into JR's for lunch today. The Colossal Burger was AMAZING! The service at the bar was perfect, especially since I was on my lunch break. I can't wait to come back for dinner, they have an awesome selection of craft beer on draft!
The Packinghouse is one of the few old Florida spots that stay. I absolutely love the old style of decor, the live bands and the best of all foods is consistently good. Just a great, great, funny place!
