It's not easy to find a proper Portuguese restaurant in England when not in London. I honestly believe we are unfortunately very poorly represented outside the country and that undermines the incredible quality of our food, beverages and cultural traditions. Italians and Spaniards have a lot less quality inherent to their products but it's so well marketed that actually make wonders for their commerce. I am in a personal quest to find the best Portuguese restaurant outside London in England. When I looked for this I had three things in mind: Quality of the products, Cultural traditions, and Kindness. I found a bit of everything with pluses and minuses on each category. The quality of the food was good, not excellent, but in terms of vegetarian options (very unlikely in Portugal itself but important in the nowadays market) it was blatantly poor choice. The menu respected cultural traditions and that was the star rating possible that day. Everything you might think of from Portugal could be found there, restrained only in minimal aspects, but the price of products actually helped looking to the other side when there was something really interesting missing from the menu. However, some of the food hadn't that special flavor kick that we have in Portugal, it was at points like tasting industrially produced items, it was missing in flavor and that is just unacceptable. The space available is very short, take a kid's buggy and you'll be crying for some freedom of movement. The espresso, our so famous bica was burned-tasting and killed me inside for I was craving a Delta-tasting bica and was hit by pure burning coal! Nevertheless, everyone there was incredibly helpful and friendly. Just like every Portuguese with a hint of African culture. stars for the friendliness! However, this restaurant sits in a very multicultural/deprived area of Peterborough. That is not immediately a problem, but defines a bit the kind of expectations you might hold of the place.

I was a regular since this restaurant opened, fantastic service, great food and very nice serving size. The Portuguese wines, beers and spirits (fire water), tapas, desserts and, of course, the famous espresso make this house a very good representation of Portuguese smells and aromas. Now with a new decor! The quality compared to the price is very friendly I should say. RECOMMENDATION
