Went in for a quick bite since they had Steamers - more rare on the island than one would think. My companion and I both ordered Steamers, but were told that there was only 1 order left. This was around 12:30pm on Thursday. Huh? Ok, that was fine. Waitress came back and said there was suddenly more clams...ok great. Well, we wait....and waited. We got our chowder, which was very good and salad and then had another waitress ask us if we wanted anything else. We said our main courses. "Oh right...I'll see about that". Shortly after a third waitress appeared with our clams. NO drawn butter, no bread. Although we asked for bread nothing came. The clams were sandy and not well-cleaned. They also seemed a bit old. NOT the best. The place was not that busy. It was not well managed and the steamers should not be ordered.
My wife and I stopped in for supper during a busy night in August. The ambience of the dining room is dark and friendly, and the staff are instantly accommodating and take very good care of you while you're at their table. They seem to do a rousing business with a satisfied crowd ordering dishes left and right and smiling servers dashing to keep up. The oysters are local, fresh and through-the-roof good, but the mussels are so-so and only available as an appetizer, and the chowder was a fizzle, a bit watery and too al dente. I'm willing to chalk our mixed results up to poor selection, and I would dine there again if a friend suggested it, but I think you can do better in Charlottetown.JL
Wir waren zu viert im Merchantman. Die Bedingung war sehr freundlich, man sitzt sehr schön auf einem Deck an der Straße. Das Essen war insgesamt okay. Die Ribs unserer Tochter waren sehr fettig und wenig Fleisch und wenn, dann war das Fleisch sehr trocken. Der Rest war ordentlich, aber auch nicht mehr.
Food was delicious, especially their nachos. Service was a little lacking, they couldn't get our order right and messed up our appetizer and main order. Would try it again as the food was simply awesome
