Mel ́s Diner has a really cool atmosphere with the authentic 50 ́s American style interior and the staff is very friendly and attentive. They are advertised as vegan friendly, but unfortunately they only have the opportunity to make pizza with vegan cheese and a burger menu with a chickpea patty. I tried the burger and was a bit disappointed. Almost no topping, no sauce (apparently there were guacamole on the burger, I couldn't say) and the Patty was a bit too fat and boring for my taste. The only vegan dessert options they have is a lemon sorbet, but it is homemade. All in all, it is a cool place to dinate, but they need to improve their plant-based options to make it a rewarding experience for vegans. There are only a few options for vegans in Basel, but if you long a burger, I would not recommend this diner especially.
Das Meld wurde scheinbar an jemanden anderen weiter verkauft. Vorher (beim alten) war der Burger super lecker und hatte auch eine passende Grösse. Der Salat war auch schön angerichtet, am Samstag bei unserem Besuch waren die Blätter riiiiesig. Der Burger schmeckt mir leider nicht mehr, die Pattys sind aus dem Tiefkühler (vermute ich). Und die Sauce im Burger drin ist garantiert nicht selbst gemacht. Zur Verfügung stehen leider auch nur noch sehr wenige Burger, als es doch mal so viele waren bei dehnen ich mich kaum entscheiden konnte... Die Musik war absolut nicht passend zu einem Amerikanischen Restaurant und die Bedienung liess zu wünschen übrig... Sehr schade. Wir kommen nicht mehr.
I feel kind of badly abandoned a bad evaluation because the staff was really friendly and helpful. But the only vegan burger was worse than packaged vegan patties in a convenience store. It is a simple, dry chickpea that leaves a gland taste in the mouth. The bread was homemade and tasted great, I was also happy with the blows. I liked the fries and the salad was good too. I can imagine that the pasta is also vegan. But seriously, for vegans, the options are not great. It's just where you can get something in a group, but I wouldn't look for this place to eat a vegan burger. It is a pity because the place is known for large meat-based burgers.
Went here early last night before a comedy show, it was empty but it had only just opened for dinner. All of the tables were reserved so obviously a busy place. I had a cheeseburger and a milkshake, both really tasty. I'm looking forward to going back again. Great music too!
