The original Marigold was my favorite breakfast/brunch spot in Madison. Since the new owners took over, they 've made some changes that have robbed this place of a lot of its original charm. The menu is still largely the same, and the food is still good, but the seating system on the weekend is incomprehensible. Seeing no line, I went to walk in the door, and came face to face with a member of staff who took my name, handed me a menu, and directed me to wait outside. There were open tables, so I 'm not sure why this was necessary. Later, after I ordered and got my table, they went to a sort of split system where people could wait in line for an inside table, or take an open table outside and someone would wait on them. I don 't know how that 's going to work on a warmer day when outside tables are more in demand. The old system was simpler consisting of waiting in a line to order, and then being directed to a table once your order had been placed. While this led to a lot of people standing around in a cramped space, it was at least straightforward and easy to understand. I hope they get this system figured out and improved. Unless/until they do, I won 't be coming back on weekends.
