My husband and I thought that as a special treat this year, we would make reservations for a lovely Christmas lunch in a nice restaurant overlooking the Seine. We have lived a long time near Poissy and we had been to L 'Esturgeon in the past. So, the restaurant is well-known to us. L 'Esturgeon used to be pretty good in the late 90 's and then seemed to go downhill. The decoration had become rough-looking and dirty in the 2000s, so we just hadn 't been back in a long time. And then,we heard that the ownership had completely redone the restaurant and updated everything. So, we thought we 'd try it on Christmas day. We arrived at 12:45, right on time, and were seated at a pretty table overlooking the river. Indeed, they HAD completely redone the place! The former antique French vintage look had been replaced by a very slick contemporary gray decor. Honestly, I thought it made the atmosphere in the restaurant rather cold, but that isn 't my complaint here. There were other people seated at tables around us, but the room was about half full when we arrived. The holiday menu was already set as a special Christmas fare. All we had to do was choose one or two things. We looked at the menu printed out on a piece of paper and placed on our table. We discussed what we would like. It looked very good. So far, so good. And then we sat there. For a while, the scenery is distracting and pleasant, so you just chat. About 20 min. later we were asked by the hostess if we would like an aperitif. We ordered 2 glasses of champagne. And then they gave us a little amuse-gueule or tiny appetizer. And we sat there and sat there. We asked for some bread and got 2 dry little rolls. And we sat there. And we sat there. We asked to look at the wine menu. And we sat there. By 1:30, the hostess still hadn 't even taken our order. The scenery was getting very old by now. The fun of going out for Christmas lunch was rapidly deteriorating. My husband and I just looked at one another. What do we do? At this rate, even if they did take our order, we 'd be sitting there until who knows when. And honestly, by 1:45, we were no longer in a holiday mood. So, we decided to leave and have our lunch at home instead. Epilogue: We got up to leave. My husband told the hostess that it had been an hour and she still hadn 't taken our order and that we would pay for our champagne and be on our way. Personally, I think that a hostess in that situation should probably apologize for the long wait and make an effort to repair the damage done. That was not her game plan. She told my husband crisply that the 2 glasses of champagne would be 20 euros. The chef at the back heard the talk and asked what the problem was. My husband said that we 'd been waiting an hour and that our order hadn 't even been taken. The chef said well, that 's how it is here! Okay, that 's clear enough. If that 's how things are done at l 'Esturgeon, then we won 't ever be back. End of story.

We reserved for Sunday lunch on a sunny day, the location is amazing and the restaurant gives a beautiful view of the Seine river. We were seated immediately and we’re happy to chat for 10 minutes without attention. The restaurant is manned by the maître ‘d Who also seems to be the owner and three very young apprentices. The patronne comes over visibly annoyed that my husband sought her attention with an inquiring glance. I have to keep the order of arrival was our greeting without the hint of a smile. I inquired how the lobster was cooked, obviously the question was unusual and unappropriate because she got all flustered and told me it is cooked in water .I got the impression she didn’t want me to take the dish when she answered so abruptly Good service is supposed to make you such a description of the items on the menu that you feel an appetite for it, it has to reflect how enthusiastic the chef is about his food. Today this was not the case. Same thing for the desserts we were asked to choose the desserts at the beginning of the meal but nothing was done to make it palatable to us. Also often people like to order dessert according to How full they feel after the meal. Forcing people to choose at the beginning of the meal is certainly a viable proposition for the restaurant, I doubt they would sell as many desserts if they left the decision for the end of the meal The three young apprentices were very concentrated on their jobs but clearly at the very beginning of their training: they filled the bread basket rather consistently but always with four rolls when we were five at the table. I was seated at the end of the table and they brushed my chair and even one time my body every time they went behind me. The food was quite wonderful. Lobster was delicious, fish was delicately prepared , every one at the table was happy. Desserts were not up to the level of the savory dishes, my mango and chocolate dessert didn’t taste great. All in all ,a nice discovery of location and food marred by unpleasantness of owner

In 2012 my husband and I visited Paris and after failing to get into the Palace of Versailles as it was soooo busy, we drove off in a bit of a huff. We didn't know if to turn left or right at a set of lights but saw a sign for Poissy and decided to head there. We came across L'estrugeon by pure accident whilst walking and in all honestly we thought is was closed! However, on further investigation we found it to be open and we were welcomed with open arms. We entered into the most beautiful foyer then the dining room with its eclectic mix of antiques and French decor, including a tree growing through the building! We had the most amazing and wonderful lunch served to us with a beautiful bottle of pink Sancerre, whilst over looking the Seine. What more could we want. We were now very pleased that our day had not gone according to plan! We just couldn't believe our luck and are still talking about the fabulous dining experience we enjoyed at L'esturgeon four years on! In fact, we are planning of taking friends there in July 2017 to celebrate a 50th birthday! A wonderful find, well worth a visit! Please note we visited in June 2012 (not July 2015 but TA doesn't seem to have a tab to take me back that far)!?

I’m going to argue this is the nicest hotel in Poissy. Well run, friendly staff and big rooms reasonably priced. It’s conveniently located a short walk across the road from the RER and bus station. My room overlooked the Seine, gorgeous view complete with white swans floating by! I arrived on an early morning flight and I was able to check in 6 hours early than the normal check in! Not many hotels allow u to do that!! Breakfast was 15 euros but was well worth it. The air conditioning worked super well which was a relief during the heatwave. I would definitely stay here again.
