Le Vauban - Table reservation

Unable to get a Saturday dinner booking, we happily chose Sunday lunch and it was wonderful. 12.15 arrival and already filling up with a great mix of families and couples, all relaxed and despite a stylish decor the clientele were very casual style-wise. The welcome was friendly and the owner, Barbara, was fun and charming. We had the menu Découverte and every course was delicious. Kir royales accompanied by mini croque-Monsieur and a little tatziki. Then beautifully presented starter of foie gras blended with smoked salmon topped with an apple jelly and little blue borage flower which added an oyster flavour. My main was delicious monkfish on a risotto with a Thai twist, and husband had a tender piece of beef, and excellent vegetables with both. A Brie de Meaux served at the right temperature and maturity was perfect. Desserts, mille-feuille and a Zeus chocolat (eclair) both heavenly. Chose a Julienas Beaujolais and finished with excellent coffees and petits fours. Bill 140 euros, and we could not fault a delicious meal. Along with the attentive and entertaining care by the team, we would highly recommend if you are in Cherbourg or the region. Un grand merci à tous!

My partner and I went here on a Friday night after having booked some weeks earlier. We were greeted warmly by the proprietor and shown to very nice table. Had a superb meal that didn't break the bank. Not rushed in anyway and the food was excellent and though the wine list wasn't extensive there are some good choices on it.Overall a very enjoyable evening.One thing to bear in mind if you are booking from the UK, you will be asked to confirm your reservation the day before which you should do. Sadly the restaurant has had some instances of UK people booking large parties and then not showing which must be frustrating for them.If you're in Cherbourg and looking for a good place to eat this has to be on your list.

Le Vauban is excellent. A husband and wife duo, with the husband being the very talented chef and his fabulous host of a wife welcoming you to their restaurant. The food is a wow for your eyes (see my photos) and you won't be disappointed in taste. You can choose from the set menu (excellent value at €32/€45) or from the al a carte. Definitely choose this restaurant if you're staying in Cherbourg and appreciate French cooking. But please don't be the Brits that book this restaurant and never show up - apparently it happens a lot so she was delighted we arrived! Thank you for a great dining experience Le Vauban!

We thought we would visit Le Vauban having read good reviews and we were very impressed. Friendly attentive staff and a wide ranging menu on offer. The food was excellent and the restaurant atmosphere was good. We definitely plan to go back!
