I've been to this restaurant twice in the evening, mainly for the convenience of not driving into Foix. It is quite nice inside and during the summer they hve a few tables to the side of the restauarant. However these face east so you won't catch the sun in the evening. Service both times was ok. We've never had an outstanding dish here, the food is distinctly average, neither particularly well-cooked nor well presented. The Cassoulet for example contained some broken bones and though the beans were soft overall it was not a good dish swimming in too much fat. The magret had the same problem of swimming in too much liquid fat. All in all not good value for money as it was also relatively expensive. The lunchtime menu would probably provide better value but even so like many restaurants in France they need to pay more attntion to the standard of cooking and the presentation of the dishes.
Visited Le Poelon for lunch this week and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. First of all do not be put off by the restaurants location or outside exterior - like many good French restaurants its a bit out of town and needs a lick of paint - BUT - inside its well decorated - staff and very welcoming and the 3 course 11.50 euro l;unch is great value. I ate Salade Paysanne, Faux Filet and finished with Tarte au Citron - all good sized portions, nicely presented and of good quality. Well worth a visit if you happen to be near Foix in the Ariege.
Unforeseen stop for lunch and a break you can no longer be a gourmet! refined and entirely homemade menu, an efficient waitress and who keeps the smile despite the room that gets worse and worse. Thanks to you for your professionalism. very soon,
