I never thought we could eat bad in France but I made a grave mistake. The food was edible but not enjoyable and made us very sad. After reading so many positive reviews it has 5 stars on this site), I booked dinner here to have, what I thought an authentic and special meal in Dijon. It had a few local specialities on the menu. The restaurant is located in a lovely quiet square and had several tables outside. There are 3 restaurants here and the table is color coded, 1 waiter/waitress per restaurant. The restaurants seemed popular, since people who did not reserve were turned away. The waitress let us choose where to sit, after the confusion of not knowing where I booked I had to show my reservation confirmation I got by sms). She was polite and seemed friendly. The menu was written on a board, which she carried from table to table. She took the time to translate the dishes and point out which ones are local. As an appetizer we opted for fried frogs with butter and parsley and snails. The frogs were pretty good but difficult to eat, since they swam in liquid butter and are small. The snails were unfortunately and surprisingly minced and stuffed in a falafel type thing. It had no flavour, the best thing on the plate was the salad dressing. We chose a white wine for the appetizer which was really good. The food came out really quick, which surprised us. We still thought we would have a good meal, since the frogs were good. Shortly after, the main meal already came. The waitress sat the food down and before we could say anything she was gone. We wanted to try a red wine but she never came during the meal to ask. With the food coming so quick, we felt extremely rushed. The main meal was a disaster. As a side you could choose potatoes gratin) or vegetables. We both chose vegetables. It was ratatouille, however it felt like it was cooked for a long time so it was a colorless, tasteless, lumpy, soft mess. My partner had the boef bourguignon. It was dumped carelessly on the plate and consisted of 3 chunks of meat, no other veggies that are usually in a stew. It was tender and probably cooked the whole day. It looked like cafeteria food with no color on the plate. I had the kidney-mushroom skewers, since I was feeling adventurous. It was very chewy, had a strong flavour of it's own but was bland otherwise. Ounce again it looked like the stuff was just thrown on the plate. Like they didn't care about their ingredients and cooking. We felt like we were at a tourist trap with a fast pace to turn as many tables as possible. You were not suppose to enjoy the food and take your time. After the huge disappointment, we decided to not have dessert, in order to not give them any more money. I learnt my lesson, that you can not always trust the reviews, esp when it sounds too good. It could be that it was a different restaurant before... 2 course menu was €27, 3 was 30. With the wine we spent a little more than €60. We were so disappointed after and wished we could have just left. Will not recommend it to anyone!
