"Second time to eat lunch here, and.... you know the saying. But it is a lovely location on the square and with young children it's perfect with the fountains running in the summer. But the kid's menu at 9 euro for a store-bought, ready-made burger that tastes quite revolting and two scoops of cheap ice-cream it's not exactly value. Adult burgers and salads are better but decidedly average."

I never leave a bad review but the experience I had here was so awful I felt I had to make an exception. My husband and I stopped in Chagny overnight during our holiday and plumped for this restaurant as it had a nice big terrace and was central....big mistake. My husband had the burger which was ok but his drinking glass arrived with lipstick on which they didn’t offer to change when we pointed it out. Thankfully we had a clean water glass on the table for him to use. My order was messed up so half my meal came at the end and the meat in my beef bourguignon was full of gristle....and therefore inedible. We pointed both these facts out along with the dirty glass but their attitude was ‘so?’....unbelievable. Never, ever do I want to experience such an awful meal again.

Imagine that your neighbours complain about mussels...fresh or not...Imagine your neighbours complains about an andouillette (15,5 euros), not well cooked and swimming in an ocean of industrial cream, imagine your entrecote (15,50 euros) walking till Chagny before to finish on a grill and you will an idea on what to avoid.Bourgogne wine pitcher at 9 euros cost probably 1 euro in quality and expresso 's the same. Summer, service is managed by student, industrial bread is just sliced and all sauces are commercial. In brief...a place to avoid.

This is a friendly place full of locals and holidaymakers. Nice outdoor seating, conservatory or indoor seating. We ate here twice during our 3 day stay and between four of us tasted the burgers, fish dish, carbonara and goats cheese toasts. All were well presented and delicious. The ice creams for dessert were good. The box of ketchup and dressings on each table give the clue. This is unpretentious fare in an area that is full of high end establishments. If you want a good meal without the fuss or the trimmings I would recommend.

We called in for an early evening dinner whilst staying in the area as a base to tour around. Very attractive square with fountains outside but the bar/bistro itself appeared fairly rustic and basic. We were however warmly welcomed by staff with limited English and chose from a decent range of food and drink. Our group of six included a vegetarian (can be a challenge in France) and all the meals chosen exceeded expectations and were very tasty. I guess don't judge a book b y it's cover...........
