We were recommended this place by our B&B in Aloxe-Corton. It’s situated in an unlikely location on the very outskirts of Savigny, with plenty of parking. The bright, clean and very airy dining room has been decorated in a modern style by the chef/ proprietor who opened here quite recently. He’s delivering a gastronomic experience, which can extend to four, five, six or seven courses. But we opted for the cheapest €38 set menu no choice) and were not disappointed. With a couple of amuse bouches thrown in, each of the three courses was beautifully presented and precisely flavoured. Service was unhurried but discrete and very professional. You come here for a serious experience- and we felt it was remarkable value €102 with two glasses of white Santenay wine and 2 bottles of Badoit). We will repeat in future.
I dislike writing critical reviews, but... for nearly 100 euros, my lunch was far adequate. First, no fault of the restaurant, rain prevented serving lunch on the terrace. The dining room has large windows and pleasant views, but it is utterly lacking in charm--the tables are plastic and seem adequate for a basic restaurant, but not one charging these prices. The wait staff was congenial and competent. However, most important: the dishes were mediocre: although the presentation was superb, portions were small and dishes lacked subtlety. And, to repeat, I expected more given the hefty prices and recent TA reviews that sing of the praises of Le 428. Sorry to be sour but... honesty compels.
I don’t usually like fixed menus, because there’s often something I don’t like. But here, they make a point of asking you if you have any dislikes, and we’ve been twice without being served anything we didn’t like. The décor is contemporary and comfortable, the food is excellent. Your choice is just of how many courses you want, we’ve had both 4 and 5, and in both cases we were pleasantly full but not too much so. We will be back.
We wanted to have lunch. It was a nice warm day . We saw this restaurant with a nice terrace. When we asked for a a table the waiter first asked if we know their policy. Then he mentioned the price , then he decided how many courses we should eat . At last , lunch was only served inside. We decided to go elsewhere…. they only had one table sitting for lunch)… guess why..
