The first time we visited the Ancienne Ecole, we were blown away by the cooking for a lunchtime menu. We were looking for a house in the area, but had by then decided to buy over the border in Spain, with regular trips back to France for shopping. (We'd been living elsewhere in France for some 25 years.) It seemed ideal to get a high-quality lunch there as part of a shopping trip. After an abortive attempt at this during their winter closure, we did go for lunch, but it wasn't quite as good as we remembered. There was a problem that day anyway, and what my wife would have wanted had had to be erased from the blackboard at the last minute. The cooking was, however, still top-class and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. All the same, the wine and some price supplements certainly added up and the bill totalled about €75. That is still not wickedly expensive when you allow for the quality received, but we have found alternatives in the area just as good for similar prices. There are also alternatives, usually with house wine and slightly lower quality, at around half that price. We will still go back on future shopping trips, but probably only once every 3 or 4 trips.

If you wish for truly French food this is the place for you. We have been coming to this restaurant for 30 years. Under its current ownership it is fabulous. The staff are excellent and always make us extremely welcome we book at least 3 times to come here whilst we are on holiday and e en when we just turn up and the restaurant is full they are very accommodating but during peak season you must book!! Very relaxing atmosphere and always full says it all really. See you next year.

We went to the "L'Ancienne École" on a holiday. We were seated on a indoor backyard and it was a little bit too hot. Despite the crowd the service was excellent, the kitchen was quite slow but we were not in a rush. Good ingredients a beautifully cooked main courses. Quite a short wine list eventhought the one we chose was very good. It is not the first time and it will not be the last but next time we will book to be sitting inside the restaurant.

We unanimously decided that this was the best meal we had during our two weeks in the South of France. We sat outside, there was a mix of locals and tourists and it was a very pleasant atmosphere. The food was extremely well presented and delicious, the service was attentive and friendly. A really good place to eat!
