I visited the wonderful restaurant named Initial in Caen (a 1* MIchelin) and they owner recommended I have a meal at L'Accolade. I had not heard of this restaurant as I had only recently arrived for a 2 weeks stay, but received a wonderful experience at a dinner with 3 friends. The restaurant is located in the centre of Caen, not far from the castle. While most of the other restaurants in this area seem a bit more touristic, L'Accodade is something really special and not to be missed. The food is excellent and prepared to perfection but also presented in a beautiful way.I ordered a la carte and selected asparagus with ham and a perfectly poached egg with a bernaise sauce as a starter. It was splendid. I followed this with lamb and cannelloni of potatoes with a sauce made from sheep milk and olives. My mouth is watering just remembering the flavours. Finally for the end of the meal I had a kind of deconstructed apple tart (tarte tatin au pomme) with ganache made from beer and one from whiskey. Beautiful presentation and each individual taste was exceptional and blended perfectly. My friends ordered from the very well priced 4 course prix fixe menu and were also delighted with their food. For me great food is always about the sauces. I can find high quality meat and fish but to match it with the sauce is what makes the difference between a good meal and a great meal. This was a great meal and pretty good value for what you are getting. The chef came out to speak with us and was warm and friendly. I really could not have asked for a better experience, from the atmosphere of the room, to the helpful staff to the wonderful food. This restaurant is certainly in the same league at the best 1* restaurants and deserves to be awarded one soon. Three cheers for this restaurant.
