We stayed in Corbie for a few days while visiting the Somme battlefields, in particular we were following The Australian Memorial Trail. We ate in L'Abbatiale as it was convenient and looked welcoming. There was a small but varied menu written on a chalk board on the wall and a printed wine menu. There were four of us and as we had been travelling all day we were all hungry. We had starters, mains and deserts with a bottle of red. Everything we ordered was just about perfect, well cooked, well presented and well proportioned. The wine we chose (mid-priced) was smooth, full bodied, very drinkable. The service was excellent, our French is not very good, but the waitresses were very helpful, patient and friendly. In short we enjoyed the meal so much we went back three times, each time the food and wine were just as enjoyable. So much so that between the four of us over four nights we tried every starter, main and desert as well as most of the red wine list. Starting with the wine, every one we tried was just about perfect. We may have been lucky or we may have chosen well, my wife and son-in-law can pick them. The food was not Michelin standard or fussy but as with the wine everything we chose was just about perfect and should cater for all tastes. This is not a large restaurant so the selection was not large but varied enough and well cooked and presented. On the night I had a steak it was cooked exactly how I asked for it. All the food and wine was reasonably priced. We had a great visit to France as always and the food and wine experience we had in L'Abbatiale complimented it perfectly. We recommend a visit there, it's not a fancy restaurant but the food, wine and service created a relaxed and enjoyable evening to finish our days visiting this lovely and moving part of France
