Not for the faint hearted if you are English however you have every chance to avoid the live seafood in choosing from the starter menu if you are squeamish about eating live whelks. I was reasonably resolute and OK but my partner would have quite happily returned them to their natural habitat!The basic menu gave a delightful reasonably priced 4 course feast if you chose carefully to avoid the starter pitfall mentioned and a very fatty desert. For me it was a lovely main course of fish medley in a creamy sauce, a simple but delightful course of local cheeses followed by the Tart Tatin, which was a sure classic very nicely served warm and moist Very friendly efficient and informative service involving advice on where the local cheeses could be purchased. Highly recommended by me but not by my partner who took a main of Moules Frites, the cheese and then the fatty desert mentioned and proceeded to feel quite overwhelmed by fat and the sight of poor squirmy creatures in their shells !
It was getting late and all the good places were closing or full so we saw La marine was busy but hadn't looked it up on TA and went in .Having eaten fish for most of our stay so far we saw Entrecote steak on the menu and both ordered . They arrived with the poivre sauce covering each steak , we both tried to find some good quality meat under the sauce with differing results . My partners steak was very gristley and mine to a lesser degree . When the waitress took our plates we mentioned this and was met with indifference and no apology or bill reduction . That will teach us to not check TA first .
I can't understand the poor reviews as this restaurant was perfect for us last night. We chose the £15.40 set menu and a 1/2 bottle of Muscadet plus a Salade Verte and coffee and every dish was perfect. We ate outside facing the harbour, and were served quickly and attentively by our waiter. And the food - gorgeous fish soup with rouille, Gruyere cheese and croutons; terrine des poussinwith a beautiful salad garnish; turkey escalope a la Normande with salad and chips; and Iles Flottante for dessert. If you want good food at good prices with a lovely view to boot, then this is the place!
The best place to have fish soup. The menu was good fixed price 15.50 each. Meal was filling and service was good. Will be back.
