We arrived late to La Rochelle for the day, and by the time we got to looking for lunch it was already almost 2pm. Fortunately for us that Saturday was a religious holiday, so the restaurant was open throughout (many places we enquired at took a break at 2pm). Lucky for us, because our lunch at Restaurant L'atelier des Cousins was "très bon" - the salads were colorful and appetizing, and our main dishes were perfectly cooked. After one week of predominantly seafood meals, it felt so satisfying to sink our teeth into some red meat perfectly grilled. Our meal was how I envisioned French cuisine to be, and the service was (kid-)friendly and attentive too. The restaurant is located on a quieter street behind the main pedestrian stretch, so it was not too crowded.

Read good reviews about this place and only a few metres from where we were staying so booked it for Friday night. Arrived and were quickly seated and menu is the place mat so we had that right away. 5minutes later the blonde waitress comes out with a wine list and then disappears before we can order a drink. 5minutes later she re-appears with a pad and makes her way towards us only to stop and chat to the table before ours. After another 10minutes and a few hard stares she finally decides to take our order while apologising for taking so long! Surely you take the order and THEN chat with your friends? After that everything is fine and served quickly as she could see we were upset. Food is delicious but we'd never eat there again because of her

We walked and walked to find an authentic restaurant .. This is definitely it. There are 3 course deals or anything from the menu . I had the hake crumble which was so tasty and my husband had the tuna and foie gras burger that he cannot stop talking about. We had proper cheese ( not thin slices) and a deconstructed lemon meringue pie. The owner allowed my husband to try all of the whisky a as he had no Jack Daniels. We met the most wonderful local people ' Fab and Doroth' , who own an amazing flower shop in La Rochelle . This was a very happy night, we were made to feel so welcome and will return - Thankyou

We attended after booking on a Monday evening and it was not busy. The starter of tuna etc was nice and we both had the risotto as a main. While badged as seafood resotto we were hard pushed to find any seafood other than a few scant mussels. The flavour was really nice, however lacked the finish of some seafood 'Pieces'. The lemon tart to finish was the big disappointment as it was an overbaked base with what seamed lemon curd spread on top with some meringue pieces. In the land of patisseries a big blow..! In conclusion it was an ok meal which did not live up to the reviews we read..
