We ate in a medium group and the food was lovely. Like many establishments in Ramsau, Kulmvirt has rooms and suites to rent which are well reputed. They also have a proper bar and a large restaurant, but we ate in the small front dining room which is very cosy, wood cladded and very warm - and most all non-smoking (beware smoking is allowed in restaurants, pubs, bars etc in Austria). I had a delicious goulash and herb soup with dumplings all tasty, filling and delicious. I had beer but others had adequate house white. Good hearty Austrian food, friendly service and excellent value.
First the important stuff. It's closed Monday and Tuesday and you will need to book in advance. But it's worth it because it's one of the better restaurants in Ramsau. The soups were excellent. Main courses ( schnitzel and goulash) slightly disappointing. The service makes up for it - and it's certainly has atmosphere.
We came on recommendation from our guesthouse and we're not disappointed. The owners and staff are all absolute sweethearts, the food is good and generously served. The decor of the old room is so gorgeous and quaint. Would recommend and come back. Always busy until 7.30pm so if you have not booked come at 8pm.
There was nothing wrong with the food, just not exceptional. Wine list was pretty thin. Service was average. It's between a 3 and 4 star review...going 4 stars because there are not a lot of choices in a small village.
