"Not much to say, we enjoyed the sunny Sunday afternoon on the terrace, we were well served with no delay (neither to place orders, nor to pay the bill) by a friendly gentleman. The ice cream was well appreciated (and the beer was good anyway)."

We stayed in the hotel and really enjoyed the restaurant. On our first night we elected to try the 4-course surprise menu. This is taken from their standard menu, but they select two starters (one cold, one soup), a main course and dessert. The food was amazing and original. One starter was a filled crème cheese terrine. The soup was a spinach and green pea blend with toasted almonds. It is all sourced from within Switzerland. We also had two Swiss wines by the glass. The white was Riesling that tasted like a cross between Alsace and Germany. It was oily, rich, and essentially dry, but with the residual sweetness of Riesling. The red was a merlot was from Ticino. It was young, but went well with lamb that was highlighted by beet puree. Lots of good interesting food. Service by Claudia was super. We were so impressed by the food that we returned for second night and it was even better! We got the salmon starter; it was beautiful and fantastic. It had fresh greens, great salmon, and horseradish flavored cheese. Our main courses were stuffed chicken breast wrapped with bacon and veggie medley and grilled eggplant over pea puree with sliced trumpet mushrooms. Each part hit a highlight.

If you were to just judge this restaurant by the food, you would give it 4 or 5 stars. Unfortunately, we had to consume their offerings in a dining room literally filled with flies. Flies landing on our chairs. Flies landing on our food. Flies landing on our heads and bodies. If you want to hold yourself out as a serious restaurant, you really have three choices. One close the restaurant during heat waves. Two install air conditioning in your dining room. Three install screen doors to prevent the flies from inundating your dining room. Go there when there is not a heat wave the food is good and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

We had a delicious meal while staying at Sonnenberg. The price was high, but that’s certainly not unusual anywhere in Switzerland. The house wines were very good, and the seasonal dishes were prepared and presented very professionally. I had a lovely cream of asparagus soup, a plate of fresh gnocchi dressed with tomatoes and artichoke, and a rhubarb crumble for dessert. My wife had a stunning mixed salad, a perfectly-grilled salmon, and a pot of black tea. We were very happy to have splurged (and to have lovely walking-paths to help the digestion).

We've stayed several times at the hotel and enjoyed very good meals in the main restaurant. It has great views over the ares, mountain range and lake. The menu is good, well laid out, has seasonal specialties and a good wine-list. The fitness teller is particularly appetizing. Service is a bit hit miss, so take ample time as it can go slow. But its worth the wait as the food is always fresh and of excellent quality. Prices are reasonable for Switzerland. Recommended.
