Not Impressed. I guess I'm going against the grain here, but I tried the Steak Sandwich at Kay's that is supposed to be the best in Rhode Island and was not impressed. A relative recommended Kay's. On the way back from some errands recently, I stopped in with family. I do like restaurants to stick to what they know and not let their menus get out of hand, but I have to say that when I saw the cocktail napkin menu with about sandwiches listed, I was disappointed. I guess I was in a burger mood, and not so much a sandwich mood. And while I don't always want fries with my meal, the fact that they only give you potato chips, pickles pepperoncini with the sandwiches was pretty low rent for how nice the restaurant looks inside. From the look of the restaurant, which is clean and a bit on the fancier side, you would expect maybe a plate of comfort food. All that aside, I was more than willing to give the best steak sandwich ever a try. We all ordered different sandwiches so we could get an idea what Kay's makes and not just the steak sandwich.Other people had a bowl of popcorn on their table to fill them up while waiting, but we weren't given any. Maybe you have to ask? It didn't take too long for the sandwiches to come out, though. They looked nice and freshly made. The other sandwiches ordered (Roast Beef and Roasted Turkey) were supposed to be cold, but mine was not. The steak had cooled off enough before the sandwich was made that the cheese did not even melt on it. The steak itself was tender and tasty, but it was not the best steak sandwich I've ever had. The sandwiches come sliced in two, so I swapped half my steak sandwich for half of the Roast Beef. I like my roast beef rare, and it definitely looked good. But one of the bites seemed to be either undercooked or fatty and I couldn't even eat it. That is one sandwich that looked better than it tasted. Maybe our server was just busy (although she appeared to have things well under control), but she never came back to offer refills on coffee or soda. My soda was mostly ice and gone in not many sips. The server was not very personable. While it doesn't really matter if a server is overly friendly, it probably would have made up for her lapses in bringing a few small things asked for and not offering any refills. Even getting the check and paying the bill took some time. We were never rude to her at any time, but her treatment of us seemed to differ from her friendlier treatment of others that we assumed were regulars. This was too bad because my parents have recently moved to the area and probably would have added this as one of their new regular spots. This is not a place I would return to and I was not impressed.

Well. It's clean, service was polite and professional and I suppose given the area and the options it's ok. I am not sure what their aversion is to even basic condiments like mustard, ketchup, steak sauce, siracha, or anything else but it's real and pronounced. Clean, safe, and reasonable but if you want taste or creativity you might need to leave town.

I went for the first time todayThe menu is very limited, and no exceptions are made for club sandwiches or bread substitutions.

Great job remodeling inside!!! Looks 100% better, a place people would enjoy going to! I hope the outside is next.
