I read about this place on Trip Advisor. I told my relatives who live in Boppard that I wanted to go and surprisingly they had never been! I was so happy with my decision. My cousin called and made a reservation and when we arrived,...our family name was written on a plate (with a dry-erase marker on our table, beautifully written! We felt very special. The table was set very smartly and simply. The room was bright (even in the basement and the restUrant had a modern-cozy feel to it. The portions were very large and the prices were fair. Everyone loved their order and we were all impressed with the freshness of the ingredients. If you are looking for something fresh and delicious, head here. There are a lot of potato dishes but there is also soup or salad. Very happy. The owner was our server and he said his wife was the cook. How cute! He was friendly and kind, and he even brought us English menus. We would come here again if we again make our way back to Boppard. :
I told the owner I couldn't have gluten, so was offered gluten free pasta with pesto or boiled beef with potato and asparagus. I was made to feel I was being difficult, the first time I have had a bad experience during my trip to...Germany. My husband had the potato soup, which I watched him eat as I wasn't offered a starter. He then had the pork chop, while I had boiled beef, improved by adding some red wine from my glass. The food is good basic German food, huge portions. But clearly they do not welcome people who are intolerant to gluten. We then discovered it is cash only, luckily we had just enough to pay the bill which we thought was high.
My husband and I weren't super hungry when we came across this restaurant, but we decided to share a meal and have a beer and wine. We shared the kohlrabi and potato dish and oh my! I've never had cooked cooked kohlrabi, but it was...fantastic. I was told from another couple (locals I believe) that the food was all sourced locally. The portions from other guests looked huge, so we too the cue and shared a meal. It was more than enough. There is seating indoors and outdoors. The outdoor view is on the Rhine and lovely.
Had a late lunch here today. Vegetarian quiche with couscous, yogurt salad and a big lettuce salad on the side. Fresh, of great quality, generously big and so delicious!! The location is great, right on the river banks. The menu is hand written which was...a nice touch. We sat outside, but the interior space is quite lovely. The gentleman serving us was courteous and attentive. They had tempting looking tarts and sweet bread too which we couldn't try. Will go back tomorrow if we are still here.
