We learned about J's via social media. There is nothing like going and judging for yourself. We got their Seniors' 2 piece halibut, fries, and a drink deal for $10.50, which is available daily. It was so delicious, I have not had fish and chips like that in a long time. The prices are reasonable for their other menu items too. Even at their regular price, their fish and chips are a good deal. The restaurant is clean with many booths, and even though you line up to order, your food is delivered to your table with all the necessary condiments and cutlery. The man working there was nice and he kept checking to see if all was good. The place has a brisk lunch time business, but service was prompt and no one had to wait long. It is located in a very busy strip mall, but people seemed to find parking without much trouble. It is now our new favourite fish and chip spot.
I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. While the price is hard to beat, the fish is just average. If you like standard fish and chip places, definitely give this one a go. We've tried it three times now to see if they were just having off days, but we won't be returning. We were both a little grossed out whenever we'd cut into our fish and see the oil lightly seep out around our knife. That was surprising considering how thin the batter is. Even the next day, we'd feel heavy from the fish. Disappointing.
Four of us went for fish and chips Saturday evening and were pleasantly surprised to find this place, it was large portions and fantastic price and great service as well....it will be our go to for fish and chips.
The food was as good as it was since my first visit 2 months ago. And the value of the daily haddock special is unbeatable. This is my new favourite local fish and chips spot.
