We were drawn by the sterling reputation of the place and our love for raw oysters. Jettie Rae’s lived up to every star. We arrived at the hostess stand, a bit earlier than our reservation. The hostess was kind and made the every effort to accommodate our seating request. The ambiance of the inside dining room is elegant but not overly fussy. There’s a moody vibe but the lighting is great a must for those of us who like to enjoy food with all of our senses. Our server, Jess, was amazing. She consistently anticipated our needs without being obtrusive. She seemed to pick up on our dining style very early on, and kept up with our pace, beautifully. She’s a true delight. All the staff we encountered was friendly and polite. The drinks were perfection. The oysters were excellent. We highly recommend getting the bread service (locally sourced) with the roe. The octopus was perfectly cooked, with a lovely medley of flavors. Sadly, there was no room for dessert but we plan to return in the future.
We are from Savannah, a great culinary scene. My husband had business in Asheville and I decided to join him for last minute Christmas shopping. I called the afternoon we arrived on the off chance we could get a reservation at the last minute. They had two seats at the bar available and I am so glad we took them. Started with oysters and fried clams that were both outstanding. We then enjoyed the mussels and the flounder. There is a reason they are rated so high both locally and nationally. The food is exceptional, the service personable and professional and the ambiance casual and welcoming. Wine a bit pricey but excellent selection. Do yourself a favor and experience this remarkable little gem. You won’t regret it!
As always, the food was delicious and the wine was perfect. The conversation was so enjoyable we stayed for dessert and that was over the top, each more decadent than the last. But what truly made this dinner experience exceptional was our attentive and personable server, HEATHER. From opening the wine to tempting us to try the baked/grilled oysters and treating us to a dessert so we could sample ALL that was offered, it was a dinner to remember! As recent locals we always go to Jettie Rae’s when seafood is what we’re craving. From now on, we’ll be asking for Heather to be sure every aspect of the evening is five star!
This was an excellent dinner. Ate on the warm enclosed porch. Crab rice, scallops, and mussels were superb. Wonderful Key lime pie for dessert. Great service from Ed with frequent assists from the entire team. Made us feel very welcome and well-served. We will be back soon.
