I stumbled upon Jean Bonnet Tavern after visiting the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville. Located on the Lincoln Highway (also known as US 30), Jean Bonnet Tavern has a fascinating history. Serving food and drinks to travelers and locals since 1780, it was strategically built on the main road connecting eastern Pennsylvania with the Ohio River and beyond. The tavern became a gathering spot for farmers involved in the Whiskey Rebellion. In 1794, Pennsylvania farmers, angered by a federal tax on whiskey, erected a liberty pole in protest. President George Washington's troops later camped at the tavern on their way to quell the rebellion. The tavern features a bar and restaurant on the ground floor and accommodations on the second floor. During my visit, the service was excellent and friendly. I sat on the charming veranda overlooking the valley and enjoyed delicious French onion soup and shrimp appetizers, paired with local Pennsylvania beers. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply a hungry traveler looking for a unique stop during a road trip, Jean Bonnet Tavern is a delightful and satisfying choice.

You have a real historical establishment trashed up with price tags on all the decor, a fake haunted story (owner admits this), and microwaved food. It's sad to see such opportunities go to waste. Edit: Enjoy the owners response. I know it's microwaved. Any jackass can tell. It's all made fresh to order in the ole nuke box, baked potatoes, pastas, vegetables were all nuked. The place looks trashy with the price tags, sad to see. Real American history and we have to stare out cheap decor with a huge mark up price tag. The menu has barely changed in years, same poor quality ingredients and poor cooking methods. I have heard it direct from owners mouth, and his family's mouth, the haunted story is BS and did it for a quick dime. I'll buy your restaurant and do it 1000% better and do justice to the history that building holds.

I am amazed by the fantastic food at this restaurant! They serve high-quality dishes in the basement of a 300-year-old tavern, with a bar located upstairs. The menu is extensive, offering dinner, appetizers, desserts, and drinks for a total of $78. As someone who typically dines at fast food establishments, I can attest that the food here is exceptional and well worth the price. My family and I dine here every weekend, as we are local residents of the Bedford area.
