Curry Hyuga had long been on my culinary radar, and today, I finally had the chance to experience it. The occasion arose as I needed to pick up my partner at SFO later, and given the mere 10-minute drive from the restaurant to the airport, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to satiate my appetite and make the most of my time, rather than aimlessly circling around the airport. Conveniently, there are numerous public parking lots scattered throughout the town. The restaurant opens its doors at 11:30 am, and I arrived promptly at 11:25 am, only to find a queue already forming outside, as depicted in the photo. The attentive server, Yuki promptly greeted each customer and kept my water glasses filled, setting a positive tone for the dining experience.Opting for their Signature Curry Rice Entree, which features their caramelized onion curry accompanied by shredded cabbage, creamy potato salad, and Fukujin pickles, I decided to elevate my meal by adding Chicken Cutlet Katsu Curry with Chicken Karaage as additional toppings. To my amazement, my order was delivered to my table in a mere 3 minutes, which left me thoroughly impressed. Curry Hyuga's standout feature is their incredibly tender meat, perfectly complemented by their mouthwatering curry—a true masterpiece with Kanazawa-style sweetness and richness that sets it apart. To further customize your dish, they offer a selection of five different spices: Ichimi Togarashi, Jalapeno Pepper, Pequin Pepper, Wiri Wiri Pepper, and Orange Habanero. I had the pleasure of sampling all of them, and personally, I found the Wiri Wiri Pepper and Orange Habanero powder to be standout choices. Their spiciness elevated the curry to a whole new level, complemented by the unique fragrance of the peppers.

I love Japanese curry. The best one I've had was at a charming hole in the wall in a little mountain village called Takayama, Japan. Then we had a pretty good one in Los Altos which sadly moved to Berkeley. This place is far from where I live but I was pretty impressed with their curry. Pork cutlet curry Well, there aren't the same pork Japanese use in Japan, it's not as fatty so it came out dry after it's being fried. However with the curry, it still tastegood. Chicken cutlet curry I always order this in America. In Japan, ya gotta go with the pork but I'm US, chicken is always juicier because they use dark meat. Cream of corn soup Very delicious. They used more cream than some placewhich starched it up. Karage curry My son ordered that and I had a bite. Taste great as well.

This curry place worths the high reviews. It is hard to discern the extra-ordinariness of curry when you can buy those japanese curry blocks and cook them at home easily. The curry here is rich in flavors: sweet (I guess from onion), salty, umami, and even tangy (I guess from some fruit or vinegar). The pork katsu is also perfectly cooked. My friend likes karaage too. He said it is quite unique as well. The price is also reasonable compared to the quality of the food. The shop is quite small so please be ready to wait in line. It is not a crazy wait though. I would love to visit this place and try other dishes like Hayashi omurice as well.

Well cooked Japanese curry! Made from scratch, vegetable flavored and spice kicks over freshly cooked rice. My choice was to add veggies and hamburger meat topped with cheese, deep umamiful curry sauce is one of a kind. Even though I was born and raised in Tokyo, I can't recall any curry restaurant that serves such one. Recommended!
