"This place used to be good some 20 years ago, with lots of good food & table service. Now one has to queue at the counter to select the meagre pickings. Apple pie which doesn't deserve its name. Honestly, supermarket cafeterias are far better than this. I suggest you pack a picnic and eat outside, somewhere in the sun."

I booked a room online and was asked by the manager to pay in advance by bank transfer. I did as requested and money was transferred accordingly. When we arrived the manager said he had no time to check his bank account and so was asked to pay again if I wanted the room. It was simply scandalous, but as it was late in the day I had no choice otherwise I might have to sleep in the snow. I got it reimbursed in the end, but really an awful experience. At least the staff was very understanding and nice with us, but not the manager; he did a chat tour of all the tables during dinner but bluntly ignored us. Really sad, given that otherwise the location is fantastic, and again, staff was really nice. I commented here on the hotel - restaurant food was pretty good though.

Went up to enjoy the snow on a relatively busy Sunday but managed to hire snowshoes from the little shop next to the hotel/restaurant. 20 CHF for half day or 30 CHF for the whole day. A lot cheaper in France, but not bad for this area. Then we had a late fondue lunch in the hotel restaurant. Nothing special but equally not bad. Have to order it at the counter and then choose your own drink etc. but nice enough cheese and good bread. And the toilets were clean... More than can be said for the public toilet outside that was disgusting!!

We booked this hotel for a stay whilst walking in the Jura. On arrival there was a small group of guys enjoying a very noisy game of cards. Unfortunately they were the only other residents and the noise continued all evening and into the wee hours - the hotel did not seem to be well sound-proofed so we could not escape the noise even in our room. Food and drink were mediocre. Breakfast was a delicious croissant with tea and the guy serving it was very helpful but it was completely inadequate for a days walking.

La Givrine is one of these places of sweet memories for me. Years ago I stayed there for a summer vacation, which was very unique. This summer I visited the place with friends, and was amazed to discover it hardly changed. We had good coffee and apple cake, enjoyed the landscape, and continued to other scenic views. It is a nice place to stop.
