We have been at this Chateau previously and really wanted to go back as it had been so good. The Chateau itself is still a very impressive place. We had a room with a terrace overlooking the river which was lovely and great to sit out and enjoy a drink. You can pay an additional fee to be served breakfast on your private terrace but last time we were there we had an outstanding breakfast on the main terrace looking down the river and it was without doubt the best breakfast we had on the whole trip. What a disappointment this time. Breakfast was served in the dinning room with the terrace blocked off! It was like an average hotel buffet with none of the magic of our previous visit, such a let down. Overall we both thought the evening meals were nowhere near as good as last time and there has obviously been a change of chef. Had we not been before we may not have noticed the grounds were not being kept to the same standard and maybe having had a fantastic experience last time we shouldn't have gone back, thats always a risk.

Long exciting drive from Carcassone to Gorge du Tarn. 2+ hour drive but beautiful. 8 hairpin turns down into gorge. Narrow but spectacular drive along river at bottom of gorge. stunning! then saw the chateau built in 1490 on the best site in the gorge by the river. we could not believe it. Gorgeous mini castle with gardens in one of the worlds most beautiful sites. Great staff with 5 star serviice. We stayed in Jaquette juinio suite for 185 E, more than we paid for most hotels but a total bargain for this place. Gorgeous room and furnishings. View of gorge and river.. we sat on veranda and had a drink, went for a walk and used pool and spa by river. Dining was superb also with grear view of gorge. Tip, make a reservation for table by window,. 4 star dinner at a very fair price. Totally the highlight of our vacation!

Not only is the drive to the Chateau beautiful but the Chateau itself is fabulous. Unfortunately we only stayed one night but enjoyed the ambience of the hotel immensely. The staff are extremely helpful, the food at dinner was perfect as was the wine. The room we had was not large but comfortable. Bathroom has a great big bath with shower attachment, so if you have any difficulties getting in or out of the bath then it may be worth discussing this for an alternative when booking. The bar is comfortable & the fire was lit so it made it cosy (it's stone walls are cold)! There is kayaking along the river from the hotel, a small pool but clean & has a jacuzzi. Great for walks too. We are now planning a return trip as one night was not enough...

What an amazing setting for the hotel. The restaurant forms part of the hotel and maybe we were unlucky but the meal was terrible. The tables in the dining room were not by the small windows so it was quite dark. There was a nice fire and the service was OK but as we were staying out of season and there were only a couple of other guests staying so it turned out like a setting for Macbeth production. I see from other reviews that somewher there was a balcony overlooking the river so probably in the summer it might be a different picture. As the place is so spectacularly located we will have to give it another try.
