For once the reviews are correct. We had choice to choose among few but this place didnot disappointed us. We had a friend who was vegeterian and south asian restaurants are goto choices because of that challenge. We started with momo and paneer chilli. We nepali immigrants are notorious for judging a restaurant based on momo and i was really glad that i discovered this gem in our little food adventure because its momo passed my expectations. The chilli was good too. Then we ordered veg biryani and chicken vindaloo. Having never ordered vindaloo before at first i was surprised to find massive chunk of boiled potato and for first few serving i was like where is the chicken‽ . I should have known chicken vindaloo , if we break vindaloo ,i guess it is vindi aloo or alu which means potato. It wasnot bad just that i was not expecting alu or potato in my chicken. I ordered spicy but i had no problem with spice. But real star was veg biryani . And the portion was massive. We were glad we only ordered 1 plate . And we ordered cucumber raita to go with which again was coincidence but food god wanted us to really enjoy our dinner . We should have taken picture of food and friends but the food was so good, talk was so spontaneous I completely forgot about that : . Thank you himalayan tandori for this experience.

Four of us came in for an early pre-show dinner and were the first diners at 5:30pm. Maybe I was expecting too much based on previous reviews, which were by-and-large very positive. Our water was a newbie because we had to repeat our drink and dinner orders to him several times. The highs: good but small wine list, generous portions, comfortable ambience, and the wonderful yellow lentil soup. The lows: Amateurish service, bland food and seasonings, no complementary Naan, dry and overcooked meats in the Mixed Tandoori grill, an appetizer that seemed to be right out of the microwave oven. With so many great restaurant choices in Albany/Berkeley, I have to say that our consensus was the place rates only 2 stars on the night we dined there.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy, and some tables even are lined with white tablecloth; the seats nearing the windows look super cozy. Food came out quickly. My favorite is the lamb momos, very flavorful and unique. The naan is delicious, not too thick and crispy and light and delightfully buttery. The rogan josh is not as tomato-y as other places and quite similar to their basic curry. Best of all, it wasn't too expensive so great value for what you get, especially in the area.

All right. I cooked and seasoned fish Tandoori perfectly. Also chickens Tandoori, Samosas and Bhindi Bhaji. Everything was perfect. So good will definitely be back. I have to try the Mango Lassi. It was amazing. Support for small and local businesses. I'm sorry, no pictures like we were hungry.
