Our family love a curry and eat out at an Indian restaurant when we can. Whilst visiting my son in Nottingham we booked to go to Gurkha Curry Nights in Stapleford. The welcome we received was less than warm and the restaurant lacked a little...of the usual Indian restaurant ambiance. The menu had all the usual favourites on it along with some nice sounding chef's specials. We are a family of four with healthy appetites and so we ordered a round of Popadums, Onion Bhaji and the Sheekh Kebab to start with. These were all fairly good. Our main meals though were just average with my Chicken Jalfrezi in particular tasting very bland, not hot, and also the chicken pieces were chewy rather than tender as I am used to getting at other restaurants. The Chicken Masala and Lamb Korma were okay but portion sizes were again not as generous as we get at other Indian restaurants. Prices were okay, maybe a little above average, with our meal and drinks for four coming to In summary it was a disappointing meal and overall dining experience and I'd not recommend it. I have been to many far better Indian establishments. Credit Cards are accepted but not AMEX.
This is a limited review as despite me saying I’ll try a different dish every time we visit I just can’t help ordering the Gurkhali Mix Platter every time. It is a meat lovers sizzling dream dish and comes, when you dine in, with the...best naan bread I have ever had. The restaurant itself is pretty basic, but clean, and has all the COVID stuff in place. Staff are friendly, service is quick, and the bill at the end of the meal is very reasonable. What’s not to like, apart from trying to walk up the hill again afterwards...
We had our best takeaway yet. The food is very tasty and the portion sizes very good. The menu has a great selection of dishes. We will be going to restaurant soon!
Professional and friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere and the staff did not push you to order. Food was excellent . Would recommend Gurkha to family and friends.
